The course aims to build on prior knowledge and sewing skills by introducing learners to more advanced dressmaking methods encompassed in the making of a shirt with a two-piece collar, long sleeves with a cuff and cuff opening and a front button opening. There is no need to purchase fabric and pattern before the course begins as advice on fabric choice will be given in Week 1.

At the first class the tutor will recap to check on your prior learning such as explaining how to take correct body measurements for sleeved garments, most appropriate seam types and hems for shirts, constructing collars, placket openings in sleeves, cuff attaching and front placket openings.

What to bring to the first class:
Please bring general sewing equipment such as tape measure, pins, sewing needles, sharp dressmaking scissors, and a pair of paper scissors.

Worksheets and samples
Before each session you will be sent via email worksheets on each stage of construction necessary for a professional looking shirt. These worksheets will be supported with worked samples of each method and finished shirts.
