Introduction to Wet Feltmaking
Introduction to this ancient art form using wool fibre to make modern decorative and useful things for your home.Starting with colourful merino wool you will add soap and water and some rubbing and rolling to make a flower. You can then use your flower to-decorate a hat or coat, or make a bunch to make a seasonal wreath, when you get home. With more merino wool you will make a place mat picture of a swirling wave (bring your own artistic licence to this one), then you will add silks, yarns, and shimmering fibres to add movement and sparkle to your wave.In the afternoon you will build your skills with some British Shetland Moorit fibre, and from the flower stem technique you will develop a bigger tail, for hanging a pouch or pod, or to use for a bird house peg bag by changing the cutouts, or fill with sand for a door stop. This will be a seamless pod made around a template and will teach you a technique that is used for hats, shoes, bags, and garments. There is no sewing - that is the beauty and special nature of felting.
